Digging My Own Grave

guilt

noun    |           \’gilt\

a : the state of one who has committed an offense especially consciously

b : feelings of deserving blame especially for imagined offenses or from a sense of inadequacy

Guilt. We are born into it, bred around it, and bound to it. It penetrates our pores, saturates the earth,

washes over our skin

as it clings to the hurt.

But that pain she once saw as grit

dis i n t e g r a t e s

all around. It crystalizes then

shatters,

barely making a sound.

The echo of abuse vibrates underground, transforming into a resurrection—a life where one was not found.

Her breath begins as the muscles awake, climbing then stumbling out of the grave. The strength that was taken, returns yet again, but this time-

it won’t be stolen, never fooled by a wolf in sheepskin.
